Job Description

This position will report to the VP of Engineering and is a key position within the engineering team and within the company.  Aside from assisting in the creation of design criteria, the position will also help manage performance measures of the engineer and design staff and will report weekly on several key metrics.
 
Perform gearbox engineering functions to support the custom drives group including solid modeling, FEA analysis, and detailed calculations for gearbox design per engineering schedules.
 
Support the development of large, high torque planetary, parallel shaft and / or bevel gearboxes.
 
Provide detailed engineering for gear geometry, bearing application, lubrication and cooling systems, basic electrical systems, housing and structural systems.  Conduct design reviews as scheduled to support purchasing and manufacturing activities.
 
Be able to follow projects through manufacturing to completion.
 
Provide sales support as required.
 
Support quoting activities as required.
 
Write clear manufacturing assembly and test instructions, design guides and service manuals as necessary.
 

Ability to travel (approximately 10%). 


Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Advanced Degree in an engineering discipline preferred (or currently enrolled in a master/doctoral program).
 
10 years minimum of demonstrated gear or bearing system design experience or an advanced degree from a gear or bearing specific engineering program with relative graduate study experience.
 
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast paced, project driven (vs. product driven) environment with inputs from multiple sources while staying focus on the goals.
 
Demonstrate clear and effective communication skills.
 
Demonstrated design experience in two or more of the following areas:
            Carburized & ground steel gear design.
            Gear system design (planetary / parallel shaft, helical or spur).
            Rolling element bearing design or application.
            Structural systems (castings, forgings or weldments)
            Fasteners and bolted joints
            Pressurized lubrication systems and cooling systems
            Material science of carburized or induction hardened steel
            Manufacturing of gears.
 
Demonstrated knowledge of:
            Solid works, Unigraphics or other 3d modeling software.
            Finite Element Analysis (Ansys, Solid works, Etc.)
            Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance methods
            Microsoft Office applications
            A gear or bearing specific design program (i.e.. AGMA, KissSoft, Gear Lab, Romax, etc)
 
Six-Sigma or other statistical design methodology training/certification preferred.
