Job Description

The Director North America Rigid Packaging is accountable for the procurement of Rigid Packaging in excess of $450MM, including but not limited to Metal, Aluminum, Glass and Plastic for all NA locations. This role will support our European and Asia Pacific procurement strategy development and implementation across global categories. The individual will ensure quality of materials, competitive pricing, adherence to company policies, procurement processes and endeavors related to the operation of a proactive and strategic Global Procurement Business Unit. Strong strategic leadership on both developing and implementing the strategic direction of the portfolio in addition to influencing skills both cross functionally and regionally are essential. This position is accountable for developing and maintaining a seamless relationship with strategic vendors and oversight for vendor quality programs to meet standards and specifications.  
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead Strategic Supplier Relationships to jointly drive value beyond cost, leveraging supplier capability to deliver both top and bottom line business benefit.
  • In conjunction with Category leads, develop category management strategies for cost reduction and value enhancement to result in tangible benefits to the bottom line with sound knowledge on internal analysis and external market analysis
  • Drive development of 'Should Cost Models' for all categories to leverage supplier negotiations both domestically and internationally
  • Partner with Commodity Risk Management on the execution of commodity risk strategies for hedgeable commodities
  • Evaluate strategies based on changing market conditions and provide inputs during strategic sourcing activities, including internal and external analysis and negotiations 
  • Lead coaching and individual training/development for the team as required building capability to deliver overall category objectives
  • Drive development of enabler cost savings/value add initiatives with x-functional partners and suppliers
  • Ensure consistent and accurate cost saving tracking to support the North American Supply chain targets
  • Contribute to and support the development and implementation of best practice Procurement work processes across the Global Procurement organization and across the interfaces with other business functions (e.g. Finance, R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain in each region). 
  • Ensure quality of materials, competitive pricing, adherence to company policies, Procurement processes and endeavors related to the operation of a proactive and strategic Global Procurement Business Unit. 
  • Ensure a deep understanding of supply markets and drivers for key commodities - e.g. Steel, Tinplate, Aluminum, Glass
  • Coordinate Supply Chain initiatives including working capital management and minimizing obsolescence
  • Drive the development of innovation with supply partners and R&D and Packaging
  • Thorough understanding of the industry and markets that impact cost, supply and demand
Job Complexity:
  • Responsible for an excess of $400MM of Rigid Packaging spend with high complexity, supporting the Americas, Global Biscuits and Snacks and Packaged Fresh.
  • Must have a solid understanding of global market dynamics and risk management strategies available to protect supply and budgets. 
  • Leading and driving complex Supplier Relationship Management programs that span our Business Units globally which demand clear communication with leaders of R&D/Quality, Supply Chain, Chief Procurement Officer along with our supplier Business Unit Presidents and direct reports.
  • Developing cross-functional category strategies that effectively balance business unit requirements and ensure consistent and quality availability of supply.
  • Build a team culture of engagement and manage effectively to attract, retain and continuously develop business unit talent.
  • Leading the team to develop new sources of supply and initiate value opportunities to ensure leverage, business continuity and support the EBIT goals of divisions.
  • Administering solid control systems around purchasing and risk management activity.
  • Approving purchases up to $10MM.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum education required: Bachelor's Degree, Preferred: MBA with 10 years of experience 
  • Builds strong supplier relationships and influences long-term supplier technology and resource allocation towards company's strategies
  • Master negotiator, consistently achieves competitive advantage/beneficial outcome in complex negotiations
  • Demonstrates the ability to create and manage extremely complex relationships
  • Knowledge of Rigid Packaging and new industry trends and approaches as well as an understanding of the commodities that impact cost and supply
