Job Description

 Basic Purpose: 


The Director of Product Management will work with Product Managers and serve as the key leader for vendors. The Director of Product Management will develop relationships with suppliers and assist in negotiations. The Director of Product Management will be responsible for the outbound marketing activities for our flooring products will craft the messaging and positioning for products. You'll conceive and develop innovative marketing programs that drive demand. Attention to detail and an eye for quality, along with the ability to grasp and translate technical capabilities into benefits is crucial.  In your role as Director of Product Management you will be the expert in developing our people to be the best Product Managers.


Principal Activities and Results: 


Develop product positioning and messaging that differentiates your products in the market Sales enablement

Communicate the value proposition of the products to the sales team and develop the sales tools that support the selling process of your products Product launch

Plan the launch of new products and releases and manage the cross-functional implementation of the plan Market intelligence

Be the guiding force of Marketing and expert on your competition and how to crush them Demand generation

Develop the strategy and manage the marketing programs that drive demand for your products.



  • The President/CEO, Executive Vice President and Director – Product Management share in the overall Marketing strategy.
  • Hands-on management of the product life-cycle - from market research and requirements gathering, to iterative solution development, planning, execution, release and feedback collection.
  • Work with Product managers and be the Key Leader for the Department in regard to Vendors.
  • Executes contracts, new vendor agreements and rebates and manages those rebates.
  • Work collaboratively with Product Managers to help define a shared vision and roadmap for delivering relevant problem-solving products.  
  • Responsible for the overall execution of products through various sales channels.
  • Build, maintain, and evolve product roadmaps over time.   
  • Research and develop emerging customer needs and market conditions in order to design potential new product offerings and manage the strategic decision-making process.
  • Understand and document competitive technology for Marketing/Product Management.
  • Translate business and operational needs into detailed requirements, use cases and prototypes.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders in order to understand the overall vision.  
  • Ensure that business owners can speak in one voice about product development plan and advocate for production improvements.
  • Company representative in industry standards activities and other initiatives.
  • Development of pricing strategies to maximize profits, achieve margin and fee targets.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Marketing (pricing, processes and communication) on bringing programs to market.
  • Manages sales and margin of product portfolio and suppliers.
  • Responsible for the development of overall private label & master distribution program including analysis, recommendations, sourcing etc.
  • Manages the merchandising process and related marketing budgets.
  • External communication of marketing initiatives including print, web, branding.
  • Ensures new products and services are properly launched.
  • Develops processes for the Marketing Department as assigned, such as new product launch checklist. 
  • Performs typical product management duties such as identification of opportunities and threats, overall product plan, pricing plans, cross product value packages, segmentation plans,
  • Develops marketing plans for manufacturers.
  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Product and Product Managers on competitor analyses for assigned products and suppliers.
  • Manages supplier relationships.
  • Coordinates external marketing communications programs across the department.
  • Assists in the coordination and planning for company events, trips, customer outings and lead the Loyalty Club.
  • Assists in the development of innovative marketing communications for all products.
  • Sets direction for and manages marketing specialists support team.
  • Achieves our marketing and financial goals through Product Managers.
  • Works with the Director of Pricing on the design of marketing strategy, processes, product marketing goals and the company brand.
  • Loyalty Club leadership.
  • Assist in negotiation where necessary

Job Requirements

 Desired Skills and Experience


  • Minimum of 10+ years’ experience in the Flooring Industry
  • 5+ years in a Product Management role, preferably with Dancik experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to influence others
  • Detailed knowledge of leading floor-covering offerings                                         
  • Strong, well-tested internal and client-facing skills
  • Prior experience working with internal service/operational team a plus
  • Experience leading projects and initiatives
  • Experience with Analytics to statistically influence decision making
  • Proven ability to launch successful, external experiences that are used and loved by customers
  • High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to coordinate multiple people and their product lines for more effective marketing and sales results
  • Ability to comfortably interact with technical and business counterparts within customer and industry organizations to investigate requirements and identify customers’ true underlying and future business needs
  • MBA preferred



  • 5+ years of flooring product marketing experience,
  • 2+ years’ experience in a field facing role,
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills,
  • Willing to travel 25%,
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint and Excel), and
  • Excellent people and management skills to interact with staff, colleagues and cross-functional teams, and third parties.



  • Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing and/or a commensurate education and business experience within the flooring industry.



  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or complex governmental regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, consultants and vendors.
